Raffles have been around in one form or another since possibly the beginning of human civilisation. As fundraisers, they have a long history and have been used by individuals and heads of states. In fact, the history of the raffle extends as far back (if not further) as 100 BC, when, during the Hun Dynasty the Chinese invented Keno, a form of lottery. The money from Keno draws was used for defence and civic projects including the construction of the Great Wall of China. Talk about a big fundraising achievement! Having proven their success over many centuries, it is no wonder that we still participate in this time honoured tradition of holding raffles as fundraisers.
The recent success of the IMAGINE Share Hair Raffle, confirmed that there is indeed still a place in modern society for this ancient practice. A simple concept with great rewards, we raised a whopping R8540!
In gratitude we extend our thanks to all those generous souls who entered our raffle and stood the chance to win a make-over to the value of R2500, kindly sponsored by Share Hair, in Victory Park, Johannesburg.
The winner of the make-over was Catherine Permuy (lucky number 97), not only did Catherine purchase 5 tickets herself but she also sold an additional 40 to help us raise funds, so a very deserving winner by all accounts!
We also extend our gratitude to Priya Ramkellawan, who is awarded the prize for the most number of tickets sold! Thank you so much for your contribution, it is much appreciated.
Last but not least a huge thanks to Share Hair for making this all possible! Thank you for your support.
We are one step closer to achieving our ultimate goal of building a school and respite care facility for those who suffer from Cerebral Palsy, their families and care-givers. Watch this space for more news on Events and FUNdraisers.
