The community at Cedar Lakes Estate in Fourways, Johannesburg sure know how to put the fun back into FUNdraiser! What a blast we had raising money and over the potjie pot nogal! This year IMAGINE was the fortunate beneficiary of the proceeds raised by the Cedar Lakes Annual Potjie Competition which was held on the 3rd August 2013.
There are few traditions more South African than a good ol’ potjie and when it comes to tradition you’d better believe there is a serious process to be followed when making the ultimate meal in a pot… at least that is what the judges had us believe. Teams were judged on taste, originality, technique and presentation with a side order of good ol’ South African bribery. The bribery was of course all for charity and we were happy to oblige and turn a blind eye. Potjies were deemed to be The Real McCoy only if cooked in a Falkirk and layered, not stirred.
Some of the 17 teams really went all out and had raffles to raise further funds at their tables. Pot o Scotland raised the most and they did it having so much fun so a big thank you to them for being such sports. The top three winners were Blom Fonteiners (Overall winner), Forever in Blue Jeans (Best Potjie), and Pot o Scotland (Best team spirit). The prize hampers for these teams were sponsored by Fine and Country, so a big thank you to them.
Our gratitude goes out to the Cedar Lakes committee for choosing IMAGINE to benefit from this event and for all their hard work and effort to make the day a success. Special thanks to our patron Sean Permuy and Co Founder of IMAGINE Rob Hawley – both were judges at the event. Thanks to SIS Global for sponsoring the photography and marketing for the day on behalf of IMAGINE.
IMAGINE is truly inspired by the generosity of the Cedar Lakes residents, committee and participants and we are challenging other residential estates to follow their example and help make a change.
This event raised in excess of R22k for the IMAGINE course.
