THUNEE KNOCKOUT TOURNAMENT

Most of our readers would have noticed the advertising about the Thunee Knockout Tournament at Dali Restaurant in Randburg on 5th September on our website, Facebook page etc…

Liesl and Lloyd Daniel, two of our Momentum 94.7 Cycle Challenge riders came to us with this fundraising idea a few months ago. As we marketed the event the stress was really building up waiting for the bookings but to our delight on the day we had an awesome turnout which exceeded all our expectations.

We set up at Dali from 14h30 getting everything ready for the tournament. People started arriving and the excitement started building up as the teams were allocated their spots on the scoreboard. The MC opened the evening with a warm welcome and a laugh, he told everyone more about IMAGINE and how this event came about and then it was time for the rules to be explained as well as the structure of the tournament. Thank you to Yogs and Priven Reddy for assisting us with putting this together – we could not have done it without you. The first round of games filled the Dali restaurant with a buzz – everyone was excited about whether or not they would make it through to the next round and only 3 of the teams would be lucky enough to buy back into the tournament at the end of this knockout round.

As each round progressed Dali Restaurant provided the players with fresh snacks and as the teams were knocked off they enjoyed a fresh meal of lamb bunnies, chicken breyani or beans roti rolls – yum! The final game was probably the most intense – winner takes all so of course there could only be one winning team. Congratulations to team Japs2 Too who won the tournament taking home R2 000 in cash each plus winning a super car experience each in a Ferrari.

Thanks to Robert Hawley for being the Master of Ceremonies for the evening, to Lionel Abrahams for being the judge, to Prema Munusamy for your valued input before the tournament & your hard work on the day & to Kevin Naidoo for organising us help to take care of the running of the tournament as well as the upkeep of the scoreboard. Biggest thanks goes out to our sponsors as we do believe the success of the event had everything to do with the prizes that were up for grabs so thank you to The Riley Close Residents Association for the donation of Two Supercar Experiences in Ferarri’s, to Psiber Insurance Brokers for the donation the cash prize of R4 000.00, to Brown Cow Productions for the sponsorship of all the raffle prizes and to Prema Munusamy for donating a round of shooters to all those players that went through to the second round. Thanks also to all our volunteers especially Zakhira, that assisted us on the day and well done Lloyd & Liesl on a great fundraiser. Huge shout out to Dali Restaurant in Randburg for hosting the event and providing us all with a great warm meal and ice cold drinks to keep us all hydrated – visit them at Shop 3, 25 Kerk Street, Randburg.

For IMAGINE this fundraiser was a huge success raising over R10 000. We are sure to be doing another one of these tournaments in the future again so watch this space….
