Discovery 702 Walk The Talk – 27th July 2014

IMAGINE Charity took part in the  Discovery 702 Walk the Talk challenge this year in honour of the residents of the United Cerebral Palsy Association of South Africa (UCPA). It was our first walk and we were overwhelmed by the support we received and hence have decided to add this event to our annual calendar.

Each of our 58 walkers took the street walk wearing an IMAGINE cap and a picture of the resident they walked for. What a success this campaign was as we all felt a real personal touch knowing the story of the person we walked for, the face that went with the name and exactly what their needs were.  We asked each walker to contribute something to the person’s life that they had walked in honour of whether it be a donation, a clothing item, shoes, etc.

We held a competition for the best photo received from the event and this went to our only 20km walker, Nompumelelo Khoza who won a gift hamper with an IMAGINE t-shirt, a Sportsman’s Warehouse voucher and some IMAGINE glasses, Congrats! Thank you to all those that sent us photos.

We raised a cash amount of R6990 and goods from shoes, clothes, grocery and toiletry items were received in beautiful gift hampers for the residents from our walkers. We visited the UCPA on the 9th August to deliver their gifts to them and took along the live music which they so enjoyed on Mandela Day. It was like Christmas in August at the association! As we handed out each gift they cheered each other on with excitement. We felt very blessed to have been able to be there to share in their joy. The staff at UCPA were just as excited as the residents and IMAGINE and led us all in singing songs of praise in gratitude to everyone that made such a special day for the people they love and care for.

Special thanks goes out to Palladium Accounting who were the biggest contributor to this fund raiser, to all our walkers who made the event a success and to the musicians who made the day of delivery of the gifts extra special! Finally, to all the staff and management at the UCPA for allowing IMAGINE Charity to walk for their special residents.

We are looking forward to next year’s walk!
